Having realized the urgent need for a chamber of commerce and industry for the small sector the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) and the Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) have agreed to jointly set up the SME Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SMECCI) to promote trade, services and industry and to enhance the scope of entrepreneurship and self employment
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver welcomed Feroze Ahmad Manager Legal Services SMEDA and discussed the formation and the advantages of setting up SME Chamber of Commerce and Industry
He said the SMECCI would benefit the SMEs in many ways and besides inter provincial exchange would also establish a link with the various Chambers of Commerce and Industries of the world to promote international trade through the corresponding
global chambers of commerce and industries.
He said it is pertinent to note that the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of the world prefer to deal with the Chamber of Commerce of other countries and not with the subordinate bodies as they deem it necessary to exchange and transfer technology and information to a body having equal status.
Thaver promised to help, support and motivate the SMEs through the chamber to establish new industries of import substitution items, aggro based industries and innovative goods.
Feroze Ahmad Manager SMEDA endorsed the view points of UNISAME and agreed and offered full support in the establishment of the SMECCI. He assured the participants that SMEDA would lend its expertise in the formation and management of the chamber as per international standards and establish links with the global chambers for exhibiting Pakistani goods and for importing goods not manufactured in Pakistan and for importing technology for reverse engineering.
He said SMEDA has the resources to look after the legal aspects and the registration and would prepare all the legal documents namely the articles of association, the memorandum and the rules and regulations for the smooth functioning of the chamber.
